| this must have been the time when ancient knowledge had to be brought back to the people whose minds only had the original sound(ness) of "the word" twisted and stunted.
but "ancient" knowledge? frought with such belligerence, accepting it as necessary?
sure, in hindsight, this sounds judgmental and arrogant. no: there's so much weeping over unfulfilled and undelivered promises.
lightsun, thanks for your efforts. |

| Dear lavender. The art, philosophy, religion is a sign of the times as well as the media. I take the best that all have to offer. Mine is a private journey currently. Maybe when I discover more soul group members, that is members of society that I learn from. I yale every religion, philosophy, or psychology is fallible and not to be trusted. There is some truth. I am on a journey of self discovery. | |

Why? What attracts you to his work? | |

| I love the (1). color and vibrancy of Rubens work. Rubens painted in the Baroque period which was noted for the color and rich, rich vibrancy of it's artwork. (2). I also love the subject matter. We have discussed, I believe how I am attracted to the Graeco-Roman gods, heroes and archetypes. Rubens painted primarily the heroes, gods and myths of the Graeco-Roman world. He also painted religious theme artwork. For whatever compelling reason I am fond of the religious theme movies such as The Ten Commandments and Samson and Delilah. I am however not as attracted to religious theme art as I am to the movie format of this genre. I once questioned how/why a person reportedly to be an agnostic have such a fascination with religious inspired movies. I believe you addressed it quite correctly that these religious theme movies portrayed primordial archetypes and I am attracted to any medium which portrays. this subject matter whether it be Graeco-Roman art, religious film, and or fantasy books with gods, wizards, elves and so forth. I suppose that whichever genre of subject matter that I was attracted to, an artist who convincingly portrayed this genre, I would be attracted to. The artist who most inspires me with religious theme art is Michelangelo. He was a giant. He is immortalized by both his paintings as well as his sculpture. I suppose I would like to leave something lasting when I am gone. (3). For this reason a Rubens or a Michelangelo, Raphael, or Titian are heroes to me, as well as Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, Gandhi, much as a sports hero is to other personality types. | |

| wow, lightsun, your personal interest makes the spice on this thread. rubens certainly has created a domain as well as taken dominion of an entire continent's cultural heritage. it's also a psychological thing, amazing when compared with michelangelo's (more) refined aestetics, imho. regional differences in temperament should also be recognizable to anyone seeing the historical contexts. btw., if you wanna know about your culture, ask the strangers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Paul_Rubens
